Michael handles all Canadian immigration matters out of our Toronto office.

Michael H. Niren has dedicated his law practice exclusively to the area of Immigration and Citizenship Law. He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association’s Citizenship and Immigration Section and the American Bar Association.

He is frequently called upon to appear in the media to discuss Canadian and US immigration issues effecting North Americans. For instance, he has been interviewed by Canada AM, CTV, Canada News Net, the Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star. He also has given lectures on immigration topics overseas. Michael is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto.

Asher Frankel has practised immigration law in both Canada and the United States for over 25 years. 

Asher has lectured extensively in Canada and the US on various aspects of immigration law, including comparative immigration law, at the LSUC, CBA, AILA annual conferences, AILA regional conferences, and local state bar immigration law conferences. He was also a guest lecturer on US immigration law at Seneca College’s Immigration Practitioners’ Program.

Asher has published numerous articles on Canadian, US and comparative immigration law in prestigious immigration law publications such as Interpreter Releases and AILA’sImmigration Law Today. He also wrote a chapter in and co-edited AILA’s Immigration Practices and Procedures Under the North American Free Trade Agreement. In addition, he wrote a chapter on Canadian immigration law for the Matthew Bender treatise, Immigration Law and Procedure.

Asher practises in all areas related to Canadian and US business immigration law, with emphasis on the cross-border temporary movement of employees under NAFTA as well as immigration provisions of universal application. He has substantial experience assisting with employee mobility of multinational companies with worldwide operations in numerous industrial sectors. He also represents individuals in various types of applications for permanent residence. In addition, he assists foreign nationals in the U.S. with consular processing of visa applications at U.S. posts in Canada.

Asher holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto, a Master of Science from Yeshiva University in New York City and a Juris Doctor from New York Law School.

Fadi N. Minawi received his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) Degree from the University of Toledo, College of Law and his Honours Bachelor of Arts (B.A. Hons.) Degree from the University of Toronto in Political Science and Philosophy. He was a member of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court team and is a recepient of the Reinberger Honors in Prosecution award.
Fadi primarily practices in US Immigration Law. He assists with matters relating to business immigration (including: relocation, expansion, investments, and work visas), litigation, admissibility issues, customs forfeitures and other cross-border issues. Fadi is also a criminal defense attorney and can assist with criminal matters in the US.

Candice L. Moore holds a Juris Doctorate from The Pennsylvania State University, where she also earned a certificate in International, Comparative and Foreign Law. She has extensive experience in Canadian and U.S. Immigration and provides strategic advice and legal services to successfully meet the needs of both individual and business clientele.

Admitted to practice in both Florida and the District of Columbia, Candice is also a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association (Citizenship and Immigration section), the Canadian Bar Association, and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (Canada chapter).

U.S. Immigration Lawyer

Carly Ross is a licensed member of the California Bar. She received her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from California Western School of Law where she received a creative writing entrance scholarship. She graduated from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology with an Honours Bachelor of Arts specializing in Criminology, Justice and Policy Studies.  Carly works in our US Immigration Department and assists with all US Business Applications including H-1B, TN and E Visa applications.

 

Shabnam Akrami Our Immigration TeamShabnam Akrami, B.A. (HONS.), M.A., LL.B. (U.K.)
Senior Immigration Practitioner

Shabnam Akrami received her LL.B from University of London. She graduated from York University where she received both her Bachelor in Criminology and Masters in Socio-Legal Studies. In addition she completed with Honours a Post Graduate Diploma from Seneca College.

Prior to joining the team, she gained extensive experience in corporate immigration law specializing in work permits, temporary resident permit and rehabilitation cases.

Shabnam assists Michael Niren in all Canadian immigration and citizenship matters, including the preparation and submission of applications for permanent residence, work permits, NAFTA applications, labour market opinions, temporary resident permits, sponsorships, and business investors. She also regularly makes submissions to embassies, consulates, high commissions and visa posts, as well as ports of entry and inland immigration processing centers.
